The Butterfly was originally built for a rice merchant to transport rice and other goods across the Mekong Delta. It has been beautifully renovated in 2009 and now caters for travelers, cruising the Four Rivers in front of Phnom Penh.
In 2011 the Mayfly, a similar boat, was purchased and restored with the same passion. The two boats sail every day through the confluent of the Tonle Sap, Tonle Mekong and Tonle Basac rivers, to the Mekong Islands, at sunrise, sunset or for daytrips.
The Sunset Cruise 17:00-18:00, $15/pers, incl. welcome drink & one-way tuk-tuk
Explores the Tonle Sap River, at the South of the confluent, passes the Royal Palace, around to the Choy Chamvar peninsula, to the Vietnamese and Cham floating villages, the Floating Bungalows on the Mekong and then back to see the sunset over the capital, with its evening lights starting to glitter.
The Sunrise Cruise 5:30-6:30, $18/pers, incl. breakfast & one-way tuk-tuk
Leaving while the city is still in the dark, the tour takes the exact same itinerary. And while the fishermen begin to setup their nets along the river, the sun slowly comes out, revealing their activities – as the city wakens-up in the far background.
The Cruise to Silk Island 10:00-14:00, $35/pers, incl. picnic & one-way tuk-tuk
Bringing further the adventure of the previous tours, the cruise to Silk Island continues the Mekong upstream for over an hour. It gives the opportunity to see the activities of the fishermen on the river, the floating villages, views of Phnom Penh in the distance, as well as discovering the typical life on a Mekong banks. Silk Island is well preserved, with orchards, rice fields and quite a few pagodas. The villages often specialize in silk waving, which makes the visit - conducted with a traditional horse-cart - particularly interesting.
Charter trips also possible. Please book activities with hotel reception before 2pm the day prior.
